MIEZE (meeza)HAS TESTED + FOR FIV. This virus is spread to other cats through bites. Casual, non-aggressive contact and sharing of bowls and grooming each other does not spread the virus. FIV+ cats/kittens can live in homes with other cats/kittens as long as the cats has a positive social structure and do not fight. Mieze most likely tested positive due to antibodies from her mother who we assume was FIV +. The virus does not normally pass from mother to kittens. We recommend retesting for FIV at her adopter's veterinary clinic in 6 months. The FIV test will most likely be negative, at that time.
You will notice Mieze has a head tilt. It's more pronounced at certain times. We believe she may have fallen off of a cat tower in our cat room. She presented with a ruptured right eardrum. She received treatments to prevent an infection in her inner ear while allowing the eardrum to heal. She has been in a foster home during this healing process. The foster has noticed that Mieze has a hearing loss, however, it is difficult to determine how bad it is. She acts as any normal kitten would. She can be clumsy at times, so to prevent falls from a high surface it is recommended that the adopter provide lower perches and towers for Mieze to climb.
